Abstract
This guest editorial provides some background to the Special Issue on “Women’s Participation in the Digital Economy and Digital Society”. It describes the major themes emerging from the twelve papers selected for publication.

Željko Pavić is an associate professor of sociology at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek (Croatia). He is currently head of the Department of Sociology and the Research Center for Internet and Society. His main research interests cover media (digital) sociology, sociology of education and sociology of religion. He has published more than 50 research studies, and was the principal investigator on two research projects funded by Croatian Science Foundation and University of Osijek.

Almost 40 years technical, strategic, business, regulatory and consultancy experience in telecommunications industry Senior Executive roles across a range of national and international organisations including Telstra/Telecom Australia, Infonet, Computer Power, Pacific Star Communications, PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG.
Established and was the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of Australia's first telecommunications self-regulatory body - the Australian Communications Industry Forum (now Communications Alliance).
Multiple full-time and part-time Board positions including Ministerial appointments to the Board of the Australian Telecommunications Authority (AUSTEL), the Australian Cometition and Consumer Commission (TPC at the time), the Australian Communications and Media Authority, the $700M Regisional Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund, the Minister for Communications Regional Telecommunications Review Committee and the Prime Minister's Sceince, Engineering and Innovation Council.
More than five years as Chair of the Australian Communication Consumers Action Network, Australia's peak national telecommunications consumer body.
